5th IFFA 2015

IFFA 2015 has officially closed after an incredibly successful tour through the film hubs of Adelaide, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne. We would like to give a heartfelt thanks to our audience Australia-wide and the festival sponsors for supporting contemporary Iranian cinema, films that may not otherwise have been seen beyond their homeland. We are also deeply grateful to the films and filmmakers themselves, their personal visions at once challenging, funny, tragic, poetic - absolutely entertaining. In this issue, we celebrate the festival that was, spotlight upcoming Iranian cinema as part of this months Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival (BAPFF)  as well as look forward to future years!

The 5th edition of the Iranian Film Festival saw eleven feature films screened (many before an eclectic array of  short films) across major cities. We are happy to say that this year has been a great success, enjoying wonderful Iranian night galas and fun festival days, particularly in Canberra and Melbourne. We will be looking to grow in both of these areas and more next year.

We are pleased to announce that the audience favourite for 2015 is our opening night film - What's The Time in Your World? Much beloved across the country, the film features talent in front of (lead actress Leila Hatami) and behind the screen (writer-director Safi Yazdanian) that we have heard from in the past and surely will be talking about in the future.

We would like to personally thank all who have  supported us in the large endeavour of a nation-wide film festival. We could not do it alone, relying on the talent and generosity of patrons, sponsors, films and filmmakers.

We were delighted with your strong response to the programme, reflected in growing attendance figures nation wide, and your audience voting forms!

This year we have had the a lot of positive feedback about the quality and diversity of films presented at the festival. This is reflective of the standard of films coming out of Iran and every year we try to bring our audience the best of contemporary Iranian cinema. Next year, we hope to get bigger and better while remaining true to the quality and spirit of the festival.
